Song Analysis Week 8: Till Forever Falls Apart
Ashe is an extremely talented up and coming musician. Her single, “Moral of the Story” has over two hundred million streams. Her latest single, “Till Forever Falls Apart” is so beautiful. The lyricism and storytelling are phenomenal. Ashe collaborated on this song with FINNEAS. The song was written about their friendship and how they’ve grown together. I’m obsessed with the fact that it’s a platonic love song.
The song begins with, “Out on our own, Dreamin’ in a world that we both know, It’s out of our control, But if s**t hits the fan, we’re not alone”. These lyrics are about when Ashe first moved to California. She imagined a world she couldn’t have, but she was okay with that as long as she had her friends.
The pre-chorus is, “‘Cause you’ve got me and you know, That I’ve got you and I know”. This line is just a reassurance to her friends. Telling them that no matter what they have each other for life. The chorus begins with the lyrics, “If the tide takes California, I’m so glad I got to hold ya, And if the sky falls from Heaven above, Oh, I know I had the best time fallin’ into love”. These lyrics create a symbolic death of passion and arts. California is often idolized in the media and people with high hopes tend to flock there. So, if their dreams of California expectations and fame fail, she can still cling to her friends. Her dreams and passion may die but her friendships and love will live on. The chorus continues with, “We’ve been livin’ on a fault line, And for a while, you were all mine, I’ve spent a lifetime givin’ you my heart, I swear that I’ll be yours forever, ’til forever falls apart”. A metaphorical or literal earthquake, in this case, couldn’t tear them apart. An earthquake symbolizes challenges and trials of a relationship. Despite the struggles they’ve spent their lives loving each other and won’t stop now.
The second verse is where FINNEAS shows off his voice. The lyrics are, “So this is it, that’s how it ends, I guess there’s nothing more romantic than dyin’ with your friends, And I’m not sorry for myself, I wouldn’t want to spend a minute lovin’ anybody else”. These are my favorite lines of the whole song. He is expressing how he has no regrets for spending so much time with his friends. He loves them more than anyone, and can’t stand living with other people. If one of them goes down, they all go down together. Broken friends sticking through it together is a stunning visual from this song.
The chorus is repeated and the song ends. “Till Forever Falls Apart” has been on repeat for the past week. I am absolutely obsessed. It reminds me of my best friends and how much I love them. The music for this song has a vintage feel, with drums and guitar through out. It’s a stand out song for todays music full of romantic love. You hardly hear songs about friendship and its quite refreshing. “Till Forever Falls Apart” will continue to be mine and others favorite through the years. This song is timeless.
